should i switch to golfing lefty?

Thursday Aug 27, 2009

i’ve been playing golf for a couple years
but in the last few months ive changed how i bat and play guitar…
i don’t know if i should change golf too. i could probably hit farther lefty but i don’t know if its worth the time and money to change. what do you think?

As a lefty, I can tell you it’s not worth it to switch. Club options are limited for lefties, so if you’re looking for a special club (like a 4 wood or wedges with bounce angles other than 8 and 14 degrees, or even most forged blades), it probably won’t be there.

You’ll probably have a long readjusting period, and unless you’re of the naturally skilled, looking to go pro type, the change isn’t worth the time, and may not even be worth the effort.

Tips for a left-hander golfing right handed?

Thursday Aug 27, 2009

Tomorrow at noon i have a golfing lesson that my grandpa is taking me to. The only problem is that they have no left handed drivers and i swing left handed. I’m taking the lesson anyway but, obviously, i’ll have to swing right handed. Anyway, does anybody have any tips for me? Or really just any golfing tips or info at all so i don’t look like a complete moron tomorrow?

By the way, I’m not experienced golfing left handed at all whatsoever either, just some putting, and i only know i’m left handed because i’m a big baseball player and from the little putting (and mini golf back home haha).

P.S. I’m pretty ambidextrious which i’m hoping will help a little. I write and throw right handed as my right hand is my dominant hand.

Thank you!

Have Grandpa find a place which offers both left and right hand clubs There are some pro golfers who are naturally left handed but learned with right handed clubs. Since the left is the lead side for the right handed golfer that should be to your advantage. Just do not try to over power with the right side.

Right-handed golfer who puts his left hand higher on the club!! Help!?

Thursday Aug 27, 2009

I’m right handed, but I put my left hand closer to the club head , i.e. my left-hand on top of my right-hand. My friend says he used to do that, but he changed and now he puts his right-hand on top of his left hand. I know that is the right way for a right hander, but it doesn’t feel right. I do this in hockey and hurling as well. Should I try it out or should I golf like a left-hander?

actually, i would continue doing whatever feels comfortable for you, because the game of golf is only 10% physical.

The grip you prefer is called crosshanded. It is more common to use it only with a putter, but there are a few people who use it all the time. In fact there was an article in Golf Digest last year about a man from south Africa who uses the type of grip you use. He plays to a 2 handicap, which is really good, and get this he is 60 years old. He is 60 and is a 2 handicap and uses a crosshand grip. It works for him, why cant it work for you. It may be a little unorthodox, but golf is about what makes you feel comfortable.

Right Handed or Left Handed golf clubs?

Thursday Aug 27, 2009

I am wanting to take up golf and have a silly question. When I hold a club with the left hand gloved and on the club first with my left shoulder towards the tee and my question is would those be right handed or left handed clubs

Check it like you swing a baseball bat. The grip is similar if the bat were pointed down. This will tell you if you are right or left handed. Rightys golf with the target to the left side, and lefties with the target on the right. good luck buddy
